How does one go from being agitated to being the agitator?

Lwáza, Zab Maboungou’s choreography for group, explores distance and proximity in the movement and conversations of bodies, as framed by both the physical and rhythmic space.

An answer to Maboungou’s previous solo Nsamu (“the subject of debate”), Lwáza (“chatting”), plays on a theatrical agitation where personalities deconstruct speech throughout. Language, words and the intention of speaking are key to this choreographic exploration. At the core of this process is the music of rhythms, in this case feverish and powerful. The original musical composition of Lwáza, typical of Maboungou’s creations, serves as neither rhythms of accompaniment nor rhythms of ambiance, but instead creates a rhythmic scenography where rhythm provides the architectural space for the dance.
