Péniel Guerrier
Péniel Guerrier began his formal dance in 1987. Herve Maxi was impressed with his dancing and invited Peniel to study in his school. Subsequently, Péniel danced with the national dance theater for 8 years and toured with them. Peniel pursued his studies at Ecole Nationale des Arts (ENARTS) and researched Haitian folkloric traditions at Lakou Soukrie, Danache, Souvenance, and Badjo. During this time, he also toured with the Bacoulou dance Company. While in Haiti, Peniel taught at the National Dance Theatre of Haiti and ENARTS.
Currently Founder and Artistic director of the Company Tamboula d’Haïti based in New York, Péniel teaches at Alvin Ailey Dance Extension, Djoniba Dance and Drum Center (Peridance) N-Y; PMT studio N-Y, Péniel is highly regarded as a teacher because of his thoroughness, his kindness, and the individual attention he gives to students of all levels.
With his expensive knowledge of Haitian Dance, Péniel help people explore the field of Haitian “culture” by introducing them to various dance and drums rhythms as well as singing, which will help in developing self-expression, suppleness, strength and discipline.
As a teacher, choreographer, and performer, his vision has different aspects, but the most important is to establish and extend the Haitian folkloric structure and technique.
