Born in Congo
(Democratic Republic), Jeff Kavanda kicked off his career very young as a
percussionist and singer in Kinsasha’s choirs. As a teenager, he was already
playing for famous African performers. A few years later, when he was living in
Belgium, he continued his professional career as a musician while working with
different African groups popular in that country. On the basis of this
experience, in 2001 Jeff Kavanda decided to launch a solo career.
As well as his three
solo albums, Jeff Kavanda has played in several contexts in Europe, Africa and
America. His many musical tours have made his name as a songwriter, composer,
performer and percussion teacher. He is an artist of many talents who gets
pleasure from African music as well as other musical styles. Percussion is one
of his strong points; he is a master of the djembe, the balafon, the congas,
the darbuka, the tama and several other percussion instruments. He has returned
to America to devote himself to one of his great passions: teaching percussion
instruments. You will discover a dynamic, generous teacher who will share his
special, unique percussion playing technique with you.
